How to Fix Saggy Swimsuit Bottoms?

How to Fix Saggy Swimsuit BottomsWhether on the beach or lounging by the pool, the only thing you want is to chill and enjoy the time. But, if your swimsuit hangs on your body, and your bottoms look like diapers, you don’t feel comfortable and calm on vacation.

Sometimes this becomes a reason for discomfort and ridicule. But every girl dreams of shining on the beach. Let’s take a look in this article on why this happens and how to fix the problem with your favorite swimsuit.

Why do bottoms get saggy?

  1. Losing weight

Most often, this happens if you bought your swimsuit when you had more weight than it’s now. After losing weight, the shape became smaller but the shape of the swimsuit, of course, doesn’t decrease. However, you like it so much that you decide to shrink it a little or fix the elastic.

  1. Poor quality fabric

Sometimes even the most beautiful swimwear is of poor quality. If a swimsuit contains more than 70% nylon, it tends to stretch faster than others do. In this case, you can only temporarily fix the problem, but the swimsuit will stretch again over time, making the fabric more transparent. That’s why here we recommend simply choosing a denser fabric.

  1. Improper use

For example, if you pull your swimsuit too high or use the same swimsuit for different sports, it can inevitably lead to sagging of the swimsuit bottom. Therefore, we recommend using sports swimwear for surfing and water sports.

Moreover, in some cases (for example, for pool swimming), it’s better to use an indoor swimsuit. However, for sunbathing and relaxing around the outdoor pool, you can use the separated one. If you use the same swimsuit for different activities, it’ll wear out much faster.

How to fix a saggy swimsuit bottom?

So, if you do run into this problem and don’t want to get rid of your favorite swimsuit, one of the following tips may work for you.

  1. Fixing the elastic of the bottoms

If one circular elastic is inserted along the waist of your bottoms, you can carefully open the seam and shorten the elastic for 1-2 centimeters.

You can do the same with the bottoms. The seams that hide the elastic along the contour of the incisions can be gently opened to reach the elastic. However, you must have at least average sewing skills to handle this on your own.

If you’re worried that you aren’t able to cope on your own, it’d be better to contact the master.
  1. Suspenders

Unexpected, yeah? But this is one of the stylish solutions to the problem. If the style of your swimsuit allows you to attach additional straps that tighten the bottoms – why not use it? This works especially well with shorts.

  1. Resizing

As a rule, a swimsuit is assembled from two parts – front and back. They are joined with side seams and a single seam in the bikini zone. If so, you can open the bottom seam and trim the front slightly by 1.5-2 cm. Next, you need to sew the front and back of the leotard again.

Be careful! Cutting too much fabric can stretch the bottoms. If so, it can become narrower, and you’ll feel even more uncomfortable in such a suit. It can also cause the fabric to be transparent.
  1. Waist belt

Here’s another fun and easy way to deal with saggy swimsuit bottoms. Just find a tape of the right color and sew it along the waistband of your swimsuit. This way, you can tighten the suit in the right place without having to rip the fabric.

So, you learned the main 4 ways to get rid of the saggy bottom of the swimsuit, as well as possible reasons of this problem. We hope you find these methods helpful whenever you want to put on your favorite swimsuit and kick off the beach season!
